German term
Ablage 13
German to English
Medical
Medical: Health Care
Mental illness
In a book about the stigma of mental illness, psychiatric patients are discussing their treatment. They are saying they are not treated as individuals and their backgrounds are not gone into and everybody gets the same pills dished out. "Man kommt in Ablage 13" Just wondering if this is the same as "room 101" or whether it means something like "the bin", "wastepaper basket" etc.
Many thanks for your ideas in advance, I really appreciate it.

: File 13 heißt "wird weggeschmissen". das passt im Kontext nicht so ganz. Eher: Behandlung nach Schema F, alle werden über einen Kamm geschoren. A one-size-fits-all approach scheint mir da passender.

file 13
or "round file"
"File 13" is a euphemism for the trash can. The phrase is especially used in the U.S. military, and is less common outside of the United States. In the United Kingdom, for instance, the expression "round file" or "circular file" is more common (in reference to trash cans typically being round). Expressions such as "I'll place that memo in file 13" are often heard in offices as a joking way of saying, "I'm going to throw away that memo."

"Thanks for saving me the time."
"After the end of the semester, I took all my papers and put them in the round file. They were taken care of accordingly.""

: Für Ablage 13 sagen die Briten auch "file 13" (Bedeutung = wird weggeschmissen). Ob das in diesem Kontext die optimale Übersetzung ist, halte ich für zweifelhaft.
