What are "garantias" please? I thought it was the equivalent to cover, but this section under the heading "Modificaciones de Garantias" says: "si cualesquiera de las partes desea modificar las garantias pactadas, excluyendo or reduciendo sus sumas aseguradas o sus coberturas, lo comunicara a la otra..." - so it looks as though garantias and cobertura are different. Many thanks for your suggestions.

They are referring to the "agreed guarantees", whereby the insurance cover (cobertura) apparently is being used as a synonym of guarantee.................i.e. either the Insurer is guaranteeing a certain cover given certain circumstances, or it's an "insurance bond" used to guarantee another transaction.
In any case, it depends on the overall context.
