Estos ejemplos de uso parecen confirmarlo:

The lawyers in the firm view the education of our students as a serious responsibility, and accordingly all lawyers are available to you for consultation and guidance. You will find both the partners and associates approachable because the lawyers of the firm are youthful in attitude, if not all in age. The firm is less hierarchical than most large firms and you will feel you are part of a peer group rather than a “mere” student.

Upon joining the firm as a student-at-law, you will be immediately treated with the respect accorded to professionals and as one of our colleagues. You will spend your articling year learning how to practice law.

En Argentina diríamos estudiante de derecho (de hecho, yo lo he sido), no sé exactamente en los demás países. Pero tengo idea de que en muchos lugares es muy común "estudiante de leyes". Gracias !
