Watz/Wutz Dialect for piglet AND for an adorable child. The term can be devastatingly derogatory or deeply endearing. Interesting, isn't it?
Yes Armorel, I fully agree.
Armorel Young Jun 8, 2016:
BE or AE? "cute" and "dinky" both shriek "(modern) American" at the reader and would never have cropped up in 19th-century British English.

agree oa_xxx (X) : This reminded me of "dote" (noun - "he's such a little dote") but I have just discovered it's Irish slang! Learn something new... ;)

Everyday, snuckelpuss, everyday...
agree David Hollywood : a nice rendering and definitely contemporary :) I know some Anglo-Argentines who speak fluent if somewhat antiquated English with a beautifully quaint accent and "poppet" is a cute word they use to refer to their little dears

cute/dinky little child, my little cute/dinky child, my angel

"Watz" is German familiar dialect for "cute/dinky child"
"erl" is a suffix used in Austra and Bavaria you add to say that something/someone is small

my bonny little one

For Br.Eng. of 120 years ago this would probably work better than cute or dinky.
