Spanish term

arcos en gradación de medio punto

Spanish to English Other Architecture Church
I've seen that 'arcos de medio punto' are 'semicircular arches' (in the Proz glossary) but I don´t know where 'en gradación' fits in. I've seen only a couple of references to 'graded arches' on the net and I don´t think this is the right term.

I feel it may refer to 'recessed arches' as they look similar. But as architecture is not an area I work in often, I'd be grateful either for confirmation of the term or otherwise. Ta!

Here's a pic of the church in question, if it helps.

And here's a pic of a church with recessed arches:

recessed or compound semicircular arches

From your picture I would say this is a compound arch, also called recessed arch. It is typical of Romanesque doorways.

It consists of concentric arches with vertical supports, successively placed within and behind each other, each smaller than that in front. Oxford Dictionary of Architecture.

Thanks Rick, yes, I omitted that as I had already said it in my description ;-)
agree Charles Davis : It is a compound arch, I think, though "dos arcos en gradación" will probably have to be expressed as "two recessed arches": a single structure consisting of two arches one inside the other.
