A "Corregimiento" is an area where a "Corregidor" (Mayor appointed by the King" had jurisdiction. I believe it's one of those words that have carried through time and now rather incorrectly designates an area, in this case a town. I'd leave the original, and perhaps include the translation in parenthesis.
Also could be: village/municipal corporation/mayoralty/hamlet...etc. I suppose it depends on the size of the place. Doing a quick internet search I saw some references to "town," so that might be the safest.
