So, my premise in not adding asiento would fly if we are simply using the generic equivalent of "infant carseat" & we don't know the age of the child as there are different kinds of seats for diff't ages--the ones for infants act more as propping cradles

Also, remember that a newborn is unable to actually 'sit' per se & is placed in this contraption for safety purposes &bec it's required by law--so technically when used by neonate infants is does not act as a 'real' seat and simply props up infant

Even if you simply say 'portabebe(s) para el auto,' it's understood that it's not just "any baby carrier"-- but you could add 'asiento' if you deem it truly necessary for the reader to understand,although it's redundant IMO

what happened to "asiento potabebe para automovil"??? BTW, the problem I find with Henry's option is that it's too vague. I think you need to specify that it's for the car and for infants or babies, not just children, which implies older ages.

Like Henry, I have never heard "autoasiento", it sounds as a compound with "self-" something that does something itself... e.g. selfservice. A personal point of view.

"Asiento para bebé" works fine, however, I have never heard "autoasiento", so I would not agree.

I used "asiento para niños" because thay are made for different ages, but it is all the same... use them!

There is no need to be slavishly literal.

I found something that makes a little more sense. I went to Google and entered autoasiento and it came up gold. It was exactly what I was talking about.

A portabebé is a carrier that is used to carry the baby around not necessarily in the car.

An autoasiento keeps bringing up the car seat.

Independientemente de la palabra que sea seleccionada, creo que es importante mencionar que es 'para el auto' ya que solamente 'asiento,' 'silla' o 'butaca' no dicen nada en cuanto a que es para uso en automóvil

Bueno, es así como se usa decir en nuestro país, no usamos mucho la palabra "coche" ni "carro"

si opto por "niño" en lugar de bebé, es porque este tipo de asiento es obligatorio en nuestro país no sólo para los bebés, sino para niños más grandes también, de hasta 4 años y bueno, a los 4 años, ya no se trata de bebés, aunque para una mamá nuestros bebés pueden ser siempre bebés así tengan 20 o 30 o más (o me equivoco)

agree Paz Gomez-Polledo : Todo depende de para qué país sea el texto. En España yo no he oído jamás lo de AUTOASIENTO. Parece que quiere decir "que se sienta solo" (auto=self)
