The "droits réels accessoires" are those that are accessory to a debt, rather than being accessory to the property.
The traditional distinction is therefore between:
- rights which grant an absolute right over all or some of the three attributes of ownership: to use, to receive the fruits, and to dispose of the property (ownership, or real property rights), and
- rights which attach to real property but are unrelated to its use, fruits or disposal (security interests in real property).
