Preferred fields:
The majority of my translation work is in the following fields:
Management, finance and accounting, IT, telecommunications, legal texts, contracts & public tenders, Christianity, electrical appliances, EU Community texts, music, fashion, design, general medical texts. Working closely with client input and feedback, I am prepared to tackle less familiar subjects, with notable recent additions to my repertoire including psychiatry and trout fishing.
Research and reference:
As an early adopter of CAT technology, I have extensive translation memories built up over many years of working full time as a translator. I make full use of Internet resources and have a collection of specialised dictionaries. I work from two locations (Milton Keynes, England and Fife, Scotland) and thus have ready access to world-leading reference libraries in London and Edinburgh. My main proofreader is based in Brussels and has access to reference facilities there.
CAT tools:
SDL Trados Studio 2014 and MemoQ 2013
Databases regularly referred to include IATE (http://iate.europa.eu) and the University of Copenhagen's terminology reference (http://ordbog.ku.dk)
My translations are usually proofread by a colleague prior to delivery - included in price of translation. My regular team of proofreaders contribute additional expertise in the fields of business, law, science, building and construction.
