Hello all, I upgraded to SDL Trados Suite 2009 over the weekend, and am translating fairly happily so far. I just have a couple of problems that I'm hoping someone can help with. 1. When adding a term "on the fly" from the editor, Studio crashes. I can add a term in Multiterm without problems. 2. Real-time preview of Word documents doesn't seem to work for me. I think this may be something to do with my Word set-up (templates? startup settings) as Word has been behaving strangely since a recent Office update that happened at about the same time as I was upgrading Trados - but I need some help in pinpointing exactly what the problem might be. Thanks in advance for any help. Edited to add: I'm using Windows XP Pro, Office 2007 (I still have Office XP installed), and have installed and applied the latest hotfix for Studio 2009 - released 26 November, I think.

I'm having the exact same problem... it's been a drag. It seems that every time SDL comes up with something "new and fantastic" turns out to be another problem that requires patching and what not... | | | Rebeca Larios Пуэрто-Рико Local time: 23:30 Член ProZ.com c 2005 английский => испанский Found a solution!!! | Mar 11, 2010 |

Hi Angela, Can't help you on the adding terms thing, sorry, but I updated to Trados 2009 as well recently, and found that my Word 2007 - also new, more or less at the same time - behaves strangely too. Do you mean Word 2007 crashes every time you try to exit it? My Word 2007 is Office + Student. Since they give you 3 licences we decided to deploy them on 3 laptops, but I'm now considering getting the big boys' version, because that statement at the top of Word "... Mervyn The extra expense is nearly worthwhile just to get Outlook 2007.

Mervyn Hi Mervyn, I don't think we're having the same Word problems (I have the Office 2007 Ultimate, i.e. the full bells-and-whistles for commercial use) - mine seemed to be a problem with the Trados 2007 installation, resulting (I think) from registry problems, and I've just run the patch described here: http://talisma.sdl.com/display/2n/index.aspx?c=&cpc=&cid=&cat=&catURL=&r=0.999896585941315 which I'm hoping will fix things (watch this space). Still having intermittent problems with adding terms (disabling the next-generation Java plugin hasn't worked this time, since I upgraded to SP2) and I'm reaching the limits of my patience. Shame, as Studio is a very useful piece of software, when it works. Angela | | | My workaround | Mar 28, 2010 |
I would just like to let you all know my workaround to the same problem. I have: Windows XP SP3. Trados 2009, MT 2009. I tried a variety of solutions, but the one that cleaned up the problem completely was: 1. Remove all versions of the Javascript Runtime Environment (JRE). Note: After uninstalling version 18, the program stopped crashing, and went back to the null error I was receiving before. 2. Install legacy versions of the JRE, starting from 12, in order to find the version that matches your build of Trados Studio. - Install a version. - Test the problem. Note: In my case, after getting up to JRE version 14 everything was restored to full functionality. 3. Go to the settings for Java in the control panel. 4. Turn off automatic update. This is clearly a workaround not a solution. SDL should should be updated to function with JRE 18 and future versions. I hope that helps. Tom Groendal NOTE: EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO THE WAY IT WAS AFTER A REBOOT. I AM STUMPED.
