Semestre

Spanish to English translations [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general) / Clinical Trials
Spanish term or phrase: Semestre
Could anyone help with the word 'semestre' in the following context:

INFORME DE AVANCE CCIS (Comisión Conjunta de Investigaciones en Salud [Health Research Joint Commission]) - Periodo 2o semestre 2023.

Translation:
CCIS (Comisión Conjunta de Investigaciones en Salud [Health Research Joint Commission]) Progress Report - Period: 2nd ... 2023.

We're talking about a clinical trial so I don't feel like the English 'semester' fits here. I've seen it translated as 'quarter' but I feel like this could either be referring to the latter (as you can be requested to send progress reports up to 4 times per year) or to a biannual submission, and therefore this is the second submission of that year. There's not enough context within the document for me to decipher this... If it is a biannual submission, I can't quite pinpoint the right term so any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.

2nd half 2023 / 2nd semester 2023

Explanation:
"Semester" doesn't sound out of place to me, but using "1st half" and "2nd half" for Spanish "semester" is quite common.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thank you Eileen. I've been researching 'semester' within the context of clinical trials and everything that comes up is related to education (i.e. University courses etc.) - so I'm not sure I can use semester in this instance. I'll keep it in mind for now and await further suggestions before making the call. Thank you so much for your suggestion!

agree  philgoddard: Not semester, for the reason Arabella gives, but as you haven't put it in the heading of your answer I'm agreeing with you.

periodo semestre
6-month trial phase

Explanation:
> semester is 6 months or half a year. Trimester is a 3-month term, as in the UK.

Periodo 2o semestre 2023 : 6-month phase /the trial phase being the 2nd half of 2023

Non-pro voters ought to see how the 'term' fits into the translation.

Example sentence(s):
  • Phase 2 clinical trial to the first half of 2025.
