Spanish term

emparejamiento

Spanish to English Social Sciences Linguistics
I fail to see how this means "matching" or "pairing" here. The text refers to a questionnaire administered to primary school children in Morocco for research into diglossia. I was thinking of saying "the questionnaires were then collated" but would welcome any suggestions.

Discussion

Jaime Hyland Nov 6, 2014:
Is this just collating "emparejamiento" would seem to suggest sorting them into pairs, or at least pairing them with something else (perhaps the relevant student). This seems a classic question for sending back to the client with a "what to you mean by this" type question.

Finally, they proceeded to the collating of all the questionnaires...

combined

Suggestion.
Example sentence:

Since the numbers of the four groups were unequal, the results of the four surveys were combined using the following formula

Columbia and supplemental surveys were combined and treated as a stratified probability sample of adults aged 18 and older

Peer comment(s):

agree philgoddard : Or collated, as the asker suggests.

Many thanks, Phil!
neutral TravellingTrans : it would need to be "combination"

My idea was "The surveys were combined...", so the sentence would need to be changed a bit.

comparison

se procedió al **emparejamiento** de todos = a comparison was made of all

Me parece pero con cierta duda.
Peer comment(s):

neutral TravellingTrans : think the asker's original collating work's best but this or combination are my second picks

I know, it's a bit vague; thus my doubts.

matching

The whole sentence doesn't make much sense, but I'll still say "matching" referring this social sciences technique that's usually applied to surveys.
