Italiano term

Società promotrice

Da Italiano a Inglese Affari/Finanza Altro Company points scheme
This is the title of a website section introducing the company's points scheme. It is followed by the company name.

I just can't think of the right way to put this. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hi Isabelle If it is a legal notice, then you need to translate "promotrice", which I would do with "organiser", because this is the company running the competition, not a company advertising, promoting or sponsoring the comepitition. If it is not an official legal notice, then just be user friendly and encourage customers to enjoy their points and don't translate "promotrice" because it sounds ugly.
Isabelle Johnson (asker) Aug 17, 2014:
Hello Jim Points cheme for household linen customers. Just one company.
James (Jim) Davis Aug 17, 2014:
Would be nice to have the big picture Promoter or sponsor may be OK here, but I also very often translate promuovere with organise. Points scheme for customers, employees? for who? Do different companies organise these schemes at different times, or is there just one company? Could these be air miles?
Wendy Streitparth Aug 16, 2014:
Sorry, phil. So you did. Yours, Michael's and fbbest's entries weren't visible for me until some hours later.
philgoddard Aug 16, 2014:
That's what I suggested before you made your comment, Wendy.
Isabelle Johnson (asker) Aug 16, 2014:
Yes I think that's what I'll have to put in the end. Thanks for all the work you've put into this and have a good evening.
Wendy Streitparth Aug 16, 2014:
Just "promoter" or possibly "sponsor"?
Isabelle Johnson (asker) Aug 16, 2014:
This is how it appears in the first example 1.SOCIETÀ PROMOTRICE:
XXXX S.p.A.
Via XXXX, 24
I don't see how I could use XXXX promotions
Isabelle Johnson (asker) Aug 16, 2014:
It is now cropping up again in the text. E.g: La Società promotrice si riserva di proporre condizioni di partecipazione più favorevoli a...
La Società promotrice si riserva di modificare il regolamento in caso di variazioni che si ...
Isabelle Johnson (asker) Aug 16, 2014:
Yes that's right!
Wendy Streitparth Aug 16, 2014:
Is the società promotrice the same as the company whose website it is? This could be a crucial piece of information!

Bearing in mind your answer to Kelly, I'm not so sure.

@ Isabelle: Since its the company, I don't see the need for the word company in the title. Would XXX promotion scheme fit better?

Above should read: Since its the company website,

@ Isabelle: IMO you could use XXXX promotions in both your examples in the discussion.
Note from asker:
Hello Wendy and thanks for this. I think though that it needs to be an adjective to company. That's the problem though I suppose promoting company will have to do unless something else comes to mind.

XXX offers

For example Tesco, a big supermarket chain would have a section on their website called "Tesco offers" or just simply "offers" without the possessive 's form.

Hi Isabelle, "OFFERS" as a title should work.
Note from asker:
Thanks. You're quite right but this is a title and has to stay a title.
No sorry to be awkward but it wouldn't as what comes next is the name of the company...

promoter

I think you've confused things slightly by saying it's the title of the page. It's not - it's the name of the company promoting the scheme, which is probably required by law.
Note from asker:
It IS the title of the page actually and it is also the name of the company whose website I'm translating and the company offering this point scheme.

The submitting company XXX

I don't like "promotes", "promoter company", etc. In English, it may strongly suggest sponsorship and the like, that is, promoting something not or not entirely of its own. In Italian, it simply means "the company that proposes/submits the following..." whatever it proposes... :)

This is usually what they call these point schemes. This would work for the website listing, perhaps not for the rest of the generic context
