Discussion

Johannes Gleim Aug 15, 2019:
@ Elisabeth Thank you for confirming my approach. In fact, there is a big difference between "certification" and "certificate". "In Germany the "Meisterbrief" is a document confirming that the examinations for master craftsman’ certificate have been passed and that the holder is qualified to establish his own company in the trade, employing companions and to educate apprentices, accordingly.
Johannes Gleim Oct 13, 2017:
@ Lesley I am surprised that "certificate" is mismatched by "certification. Differences can be found by comparing the following Wikipedia articles:

Certification refers to the confirmation of certain characteristics of an object, person, or organization. This confirmation is often, but not always, provided by some form of external review, education, assessment, or audit. Accreditation is a specific organization's process of certification.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Certification

An academic certificate is a document that certifies that a person has received specific education or has passed a test or series of tests.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_certificate

A medical certificate or doctor's certificate[1][2] is a written statement from a physician or other medically qualified health care provider which attests to the result of a medical examination of a patient
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Medical_certificate

A master's certificate is a formal letter or document certifying that the person has passed the relevant tests, accordingly.

disagree Johannes Gleim : Sorry, but a certification is no certificate like a "Meisterbrief". And a master craftsman certification isn't it either. The Wiki link is wrong insofar. The certificate is a document confirming the certification.

Also combined with "craftsman", in order to distinguish from academic studies (bachelor, master):

master craftman's certificate [Br.]Meisterbrief {m}jobs

master craftsman certificate [preferred for more artistic crafts like goldsmithing, cabinet-making etc., otherwise use "tradesman / tradesman's]Meisterbrief {m}

master tradesman / tradesman's certificate [for a specific profession replace "tradesman's" by the name of the profession, e.g. "master carpenter's certificate]Meisterbrief {m}jobs
