In a ruling, the term "appelées en la cause" in the following sentence:
Ces assurances n'ont pas été appelées en la cause
The glossary has "appeler en cause", but not "appelées en la cause". The insurance policies in question are obviously things, not people or companies, so they can't be "joined as parties to the proceedings". Does anyone know how to phrase this?

I don't think you should stray far from "appeler" - "to call (for)"
- it all depends on what actually happened in the proceedings, but maybe for ex. the insurance docs. were included as evidence but not actually called for when it came to the hearing. Speculation on my part I know, but I think you need to carefully choose the exact expression that is relevant.

I'm translating the rest of the sentence like this:
These insurance policies were not ???, in spite of the letter from X addressed to the plaintiff’s counsel.
The term "appeler en la cause" seems pretty common if you google it (as "appelées en la cause" but I don't know how to phrase it in English.
