French term

convention de portage

French to English Bus/Financial Investment / Securities
Des contrats innommés permettent de réaliser des transferts temporaires de titres. Ils prennent la forme de ce que la pratique connaît sous l'appellation de conventions de portage.
I've found "holding agreement", but I still have questions. Could this be the same as a "buyback agreement"?
Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

PRO (2): Stephanie Mitchel, Maria Luisa Duarte

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

You can use portage, though in italics is probably best.

Here are some acceptable translations:
portage; carrying; parking; fronting arrangement(s) (per the Economist)

convention de portage: securities repurchasing agreement (if you're translating the official title of the document)

Source: Two years of translating documents being used as evidence in a case in which 'portage' was a means of defrauding shareholders.

agree Paul Sadur : Thanks for you input. This is a chapter in a textbook. "Securities repurchase agreement" was more fruitful on Google. The problem with this text is the nuances they make in French are not easy to carry over into English.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "Thanks for the background. I'll change it slightly to "securities repurchase agreement", also "repo" seems to be a synonym. On the basis of the English texts, I'll use "seller" for "donneur d'ordre" and "buyer" for "porteur"."
