French term

French to English
Art/Literary
Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
...il m’est arrivé de donner des conseils, de suggérer un resserrement, l’ajout d’une musique ou d’un carton explicatif.
Someone, an expert, explaing how he advises filmmakers in the ways they can improve their film.
Does anyone know what this term is?
Thanks

In this sort of context, a 'carton' is usually a title (originally, 'title card') — but here, I think it's probably referring to the type of captions you find saying things like "Three years later..." or "London, England, 1898". The caption might appear as a stand-alone graphic, or superimposed over the picture, for example.

: A valid option, albeit "an academic term" as your Wiki article notes; I don't know how widespread it actually is out there in 'the biz'. Also note that it has a tendency to be more restrictive.
