Dear fellow translators,
In a patient questionnaire, it says:
- How easy or difficult is it to "receive" the medication in its current form? and
- How easy or difficult is it to plan when you will "receive" the medication each time?
Struggling btw "erhalten" and "einnehmen"....!?

"erhalten" oder "bekommen" Considering the current medicine shortages I would be inclinied to go for "erhalten" and "bekommen" in the translation of the questionnaires mentioned.

Hi Irene and Mikael, I am a frequent transcriber of medical market research interviews, and whenever questions like this come up (also in form of questionnaires presented to the respondent during an interview), it is 100% always "einnehmen". For cases in which "erhalten" is used, the section is different and the sentence/question pertaining to it is phrased differently. For example, it includes information about delivery, form of administration, etc. But of course, no clue about this particular questionnaire. I have stressed it below anyway.

Evaluation of availability? Prevention of abuse? I am tempted to even read "beschaffen" into the first "receive". Otherwise, it might not make too much sense to question the level of difficulty involved in getting your hands on one or another medical drug. Also, availability might be a factor. As Arne Krueger already said, it might be best to get back to the client. As this is from a patient questionnaire, the goal could be to pinpoint availability shortages as they are very common with insulin, for example (as there is an increasing number of people out there who inject it just for weight loss).

It is most likely "einnehmen". But you will certainly understand it once you review the entire document. Otherwise, in case of ambiguous terms, ask client first, please! Because we can only guess in this case...

Frankly, I think the word choice of the source text is a bit poor and causes this ambiguity. But even though "verabreichen" is maybe even more content related, I still think it should be better expressed in the English version to make sure "verabreichen" is really meant here. For this reason, I think that indeed "erhalten" is probably a better match here. But of course I respect each and everyone's point of view;) Thank you very much!"

verabreicht + s.u.

You can say either:
1. ...wenn Ihnen die Medikamete...verabreicht werden
or
2. Wenn Sie die Medikamente... verabreicht bekommen.

A German native may be able to say which one is better, but the point is "verabreicht".

"Erhalten" would be ok too, but it's a little less specific.
