German term

Aufsitzend

German to English Medical Medical: Cardiology
Hi team,

I'm translating a discharge summary and am a bit stuck on this part of an ECG report:

plump aufsitzender Herzschatten

I can't figure out a good way to render this into English, any suggestions?

water bottle sign/configuration (of heart)

It's not an ECG report, though. It must be an X-ray.

On an ECG report, you would not be able to appreciate the cardiac silhouette.

German term (edited): plump aufsitzender Herzschatten

intrusively overlying cardiac shadow

The question, perhaps not wholly medical but stylsitic in nature, might be better viewed around the phrase as a whole, with the emphasis on the 'plump' descriptor.

Unsure whether the right term had been nailed ('see explanation below'), I see in the second web ref. that the 'client preferred plump' to the answer picked of globular.

Moral of the story: better do a ProZ glossary search first.

BTW, Aufsitzer in colloquial Austrian German means a flanker or a stroke pulled - a very apt label for some of us.
Example sentence:

The left lower lobe collapses medially and posteriorly to lie behind the heart. It classically displays a triangular opacity, which may be visible through the cardiac shadow or may overlie it, giving the heart an unusually straight lateral border.

Shadows that overlie the objects ... problem of the depiction of cast shadows
