I want to keep the idea that this was scandalous in the 60s in Portugal, but was sung with 'garra'

Discussion

Mario Freitas Jan 25, 2022:
Using Johnathan's suggestion, as rhyming moonlight with delight sounds perfect for the poem. So I"m not making a new entry. I'm not sure you're trying to keep the cadence/step of the poem, in which case this would not work, but how about:
"August moonlight
if the outcome is a child
it is surely pure delight"
Ana Vozone Jan 24, 2022:
@Douglas What about something with "making a child" and including "hot" and "fun"? I really can't think of anything better ...
Douglas Bissell (asker) Jan 24, 2022:
@Ana I don't. The phrase is taken from this song but is used in isolation as the title of a programme. It is discussed later in the text but only with reference to the title, not anything else in the song. I was thinking along the lines of 'a child is made by making love' or something equally salacious :-)

@Douglas How did you translate the lines preceding your question?

...Moonlight / If we lie together / We do it with delight

Considering the rhyme pattern, and the fact that the previous verse will probably end in something along the lines of "autumn moonlight" or "summer moonlight", I think this is a good option.

agree Mario Freitas : Yes, moolight with delight is perfect. How about "August moonlight / if the outcome is a child / it is surely pure delight"

some lovers make a love child.

Some lovers throw all caution to the wind and end up making a love child. i.e., unmarried people who have sex without using any contraception, so that a child is born out of wedlock, as a result. But they might even want to do it at some level.

Moonlight in August, a child is made, out of lovers' gust

It's difficult to suggest anything without knowing if you intend to rhyme "filho" and "milho" in your translation.

Whatever the case,
Gust: sudden outburst, keen delight, a sudden expression of emotion, a rush of wind

The rhyme is quite poor, but then so is the original one.
