French term

affiliation des Assurés à un contrat

French to English Bus/Financial Insurance Group health insurance plan
This is a French group health insurance plan and the phrase occurs in the explanation of what the contract covers. The first sentence says "Votre entreprise a adhéré au contrat collectif Frais de Santé assuré par ....." My problem comes later under the same heading where the text uses "affiliation". I wonder if they mean "adhérence". The sentence in question states: "Il est précisé que l'affiliation des Assurés à ce contrat ne dispense pas de cotiser aux régimes obligatoires français." Does this mean that the fact of the Insured taking out this policy/contract does not exempt them from contributing to mandatory French [insurance] schemes?

Discussion

Daryo Nov 5, 2021:
yes, whatever additional insurance they get, everyone must contribute to compulsory minimum insurance run by the state.
AllegroTrans Nov 2, 2021:
@ Heather "Does this mean that the fact of the Insured taking out this policy/contract does not exempt them from contributing to mandatory French [insurance] schemes?"
It means that the employees, by becoming members of the employer's scheme, are not exempt them from contributing to the mandatory French [insurance] schemes

French term (edited): affiliation des Assurés à ce contrat
Selected

the Insured Persons adhering to/becoming members under this policy

French often uses, interchangeably, "policy" and "contract". Preferred English usage is just "policy".

Note capitalisation of "Insured Persons" as I imagine "Assurés" (capitalised) is a defined term in Asker's document.

agree Iuliia Vinitchenko : Right, membership of the Insured in the group (collective) insurance plan/policy/scheme (contract) is meant. Adhéré au contrat = signed up the contract, enrolled for the plan, joined the scheme, adherence/affiliation = membership/belonging to the scheme

agree philgoddard : But not "adhering to", which means complying with.

I agree, Iulia's "enrolling" under this policy would work well I think

Insured Persons' enrollment in this/a (group) policy

"The typical group policy is for term life insurance, often renewable each year with a company’s open-enrollment process."

Your understanding is correct : enrolling in a group health plan does not exempt insured persons from contributing to French mandatory health insurance schemes.

Just realised, on reading AllegroTrans's comment, that Iuliia had mentioned "enrolled" in her note to his answer.

I hadn't seen it when I posted my answer - knee-jerk posting on my part, any insurance specialist knows that affiliation translates as "enrollment", a term which doesn't appear in AllegroTrans's answer.

Of course, I'll delete my answer if Iuliia posts her own.

agree Adrian MM. : with Insureds' or med/life Assureds' contractual BrE: enrolment https://www.smartpension.co.uk/members-articles/what-is-cont... Maybe scheme, rather than a policy or ins. certificate that are evidence of such a contract.

You can enroll, join or become a member of a group policy.
