This is part of a college transcript. I know what it is, but am having a hard time coming up with the (US) English equivalent.

Bilingual university sites usually refer to *degree program* when it comes to Diplomstudium.

A Diplomstudium is something different than a bachelors or a masters degree. Since the German and US systems differ so much I would definitely add the German term in parenthesis.

alternately you could also use "program leading to a diploma"

Diplomstudium (degree course)

I think. as opposed to just individual courses. did find some back-up of idea on Google. Hard to say exactly which degree-Masters or Bachelor's (both on Google). I'd suggest leaving the German and use the English as an 'equivalent'.

graduate studies

By the way, 2,160,000 google hits for "graduate studies".
That's what it is called in America, at the college where I teach and other colleges and universities. Graduate studies may include courses taken towards a PhD, however, since in Germany, unlike in America, one doesn't take any further courses after the Diplom when going for the doctorate, it is the equivelent.
