German term

TV-Programm

Non-PRO German to English Tech/Engineering Cinema, Film, TV, Drama
Hi,

I am looking for the translation of "TV-Programm" in the sense of "das gesamte Angebot an TV-Sendern."

Example: "Sollten Sie Probleme mit der Wiedergabe des TV-Programms haben, können Sie..."

In this case it refers to everything a cable station offers, so I cannot use "TV program" as that refers just to one single show.

Could someone please help?

Thanks,

Lisa

Wiedergabe Three different approaches to translating this noun already. How do you understand it, Lisa?
philgoddard Jan 28, 2019:
You say "das gesamte Angebot an TV-Sendern," but then you say it's one station. Could you confirm which is correct?
Lancashireman Jan 28, 2019:
Wiedergabe des TV-Programms Should you have any difficulty in receiving [name of channel]...
philgoddard Jan 28, 2019:
Surely it's not listings or schedules. That means a grid showing what's on at what times. If the asker's explanation is correct, it means programmes or programming.

TV schedule

This is what comes to mind here.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Lonnie Legg : "Schedule" relates to the sequence of programming, not the aired content itself.

"Should you have any problems accessing the listings / channels..."

From what you say, either "listings" or "channels" might do, one of those cases where the German compound noun is invented ad hoc and the equivalent term in English is conceptually different.
Peer comment(s):

neutral writeaway : I normally don't comment if I post an answer, but channels is not correct here. It is about the program listings

Or since your source refers to a single cable station: "...receiving any of our broadcast programming,"

neutral Lancashireman : ... please consult your optician? Also, don't you think that 'aired' is a bit OTT? I'm a bit surprised that you have gone in so hard on one (and only one) of the alternative answers. // We're all just airing our views.

Situation vs Content
This seems to be one of those cases where it matters more what people might say in the same SITUATION rather than determine the most accurate reading of "TV-Programm" or even "Wiedergabe". Perhaps it would be better to focus on the whole sentence and not overemphasize any single component?
