Italian term
bypass aorto-aortico termino-terminale
Italian to English
Medical
Medical: Cardiology
From a discharge report:
Pregressa aneurismectomia dell’aorta toraco-addominale con confezionamento di bypass aorto-aortico termino-terminale e reimpianto di AMS, ARS, ARD e del tripode celiaco, successiva ricanalizzazione endovascolare di bypass aorto-renale destro con necessità di stenting dell’anastomosi prossimale
I'm not sure what the usual way would be to refer to this in English. Can anyone help?

end-to-end aortic interposition
See discussion - IMO, "termino-terminale" is not compatible with a "bypass" procedure. When bypassing a stretch of vasculature (or intestines, regarding spielenschach's references), the bypassed stretch is typically retained, and end-to-side anastomoses are created at the beginning and end of it.
Maybe these surgeons are used to calling the vascular prostheses "bypass" (= the things, not only the procedures) as they are mostly used for creating bypasses, and here they inappropriately still use "bypass" even if the prosthesis is interposed.
"Anastomosis" does not seem feasible as the intervention described covers a fairly large distance (involving the orifices of upper abdominal as well as renal arteries). While I am not a vascular surgeon, I really don't think that it is possible to cut out such a large stretch and then simply connect the ends without interposing a vascular prosthesis – there would be too much tension at the connection site, and the risk of prompt rupture.

: Actually, an anastomosis is a connection between two "tubes", and a bypass is - well - a bypass. Also, the existence of a "single anastomosis bypass" creates no evidence that bypass and anastomosis are the same thing ;-)

the problem I am having too is that I cannot find bypass aorto-aortico termino-terminale on any Italian site.
