All about Watson More context helps enormously. Not difficult to find the Corriere article which is all about Watson, the famous AI system. To quote IBM: "IBM Watson is a technology platform that uses natural language processing and machine learning to reveal insights from large amounts of unstructured data". The computer beat a human champion on the quiz show Jeopardy. "Cognitive computing" is far too technical for journalistic headline and possibly inaccurate (I studied both cognitive psychology and cognitive computing years ago). Things like mastermind or big brain just don't seem to click in English so in the absence of a good metaphor, just go for the simple straight forward term that most people know: artificial intelligence.

"Cervellone artificiale" conjures up the image of banks and banks of very old IBM mainframes. In other words a THING and Rometty is not talking about a THING.

Impossible to guess... ...whether the Italian author is really stupid or is intentionally talking down to the reader. If the answer to either of those questions is "yes" then you could go for the really stupid option, as in 1950s idiot: "GIANT ARTIFICIAL BRAIN".
