Spanish term

ejes teóricos

Spanish to English Social Sciences Education / Pedagogy managing diveristy in schools
SPAIN: From an article on how school principals perceive and manage diversity. I know what they mean, but am stuck on what to call it/them in English...

"En este estudio tratamos de conocer sus puntos de vista de los directores al respecto -dada su posición privilegiada en la organización-.... Por esta razón, los ejes teóricos en el análisis toman como referentes las aportaciones provenientes de multicultural education, diversity and cultural responsive leadership.

Discussion

Germaine May 9, 2016:
Neilmac, In fact, there are not so many options: axes and aspects, IMO (I'm allergic to vector!) as the other terms don't really apply, but I totally agree with you that to CTC or KISS won't make the text obscure. ;-) Have a nice day!
neilmac (asker) May 9, 2016:
@Germaine The plethora of possible options is what moved me to post the query. Normally, I try to apply CTC (Cut The Cr...) and would consider "los ejes teóricos en el análisis" to simply mean "the analysis" to all intents and purposes, as I find that many authors (especially in Sociology texts) tend to over-egg the pudding, perhaps attempting to make their efforts sound more worthy. Like "approach", which, as Helena notes below, 'sounds nice' but isn't really an 'eje'. Or is it? Anyway, thanks to everyone posting so far, it's proving very interesting and helpful.
Germaine May 8, 2016:
Helena, I even get 948,000 on google.ca, but "theoretical basEs [there is more than 1 here] of the analysis gets 70,600.
Helena Chavarria May 8, 2016:
Germaine "theoretical basis of the analysis" shows 920,000 g-hits
Germaine May 8, 2016:
Neilmac, You have various options:
theoretical bases of analysis (33,300 ghits), ...aspects of (193,000 ghits), ...axes (4 ghits), ...framework (285,000 ghits, but I don't think it fits your context).

For more options, try this Google search (with the " "): "theoretical * of analysis"

Helena Chavarria May 8, 2016:
Theoretical approaches sounds the nicest but an approach isn't the same as an axis. I think something that means 'central point' would be more appropriate.
neilmac (asker) May 8, 2016:
@Helena I'm actually using "bases" as a placeholder, but I'll decide on the best term to use when I get the first draft done...
Helena Chavarria May 8, 2016:
Theoretical grounds/basis/framework?
Helena Chavarria May 8, 2016:
If no one comes up with a solution you could just use, 'This analysis (or whatever you call it) is based on the contributions made by multicultural...'.
neilmac (asker) May 8, 2016:
@Moderators Again, when posting this query a message flags up telling me that there are several previous similar queries. However, I am unable to click on and/or consult them, which is really frustrating. Would it be possible to have something done about this? For example, making it possible to click on and consult said entries quickly and easily.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "In the end, I may just leave it as "base/basis", but I'm definitely using "draw on". Thanks to everyone for chipping in on this one, it's been really helpful :)"

Though I also like Veronica's suggestion!

In the NGO context, they use very, very often the term "ejes" and from time to time such term is translated as "theme(s)" and as I see it suits this context.

Anyway, as I previously mentioned I also like Veronica's suggestion.

at least in philosophy, you can approach any issue through the standpoint or theoretical approach of different metaphysics: Platonic, Aristotelian, Spinozian, and that would define the theoretical "axis" which to me is not the proper word, as the approach is what defines the meaning of a certain event/statement being analyzed.

Ya me lo había planteado, sigue en la lista... :)
