Debt securities to non-guaranteed capital

Mere suggestion.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Germaine : dans le cas de titres de créance, "non garanti" se dit "unsecured"

unsecured debt securities prior to maturity

The text is not about 'Titres de créance à capital non garanti'.
Instead, it is about normal debt instruments:

A) They will be fully reimbursed with interest payments included at maturity.
B) The risk of not being fully reimbursed is only associated with those who sell their debt securities prior to maturity.
Peer comment(s):

disagree Daryo : There is no guaranty of getting ANY of your money back up to and including the maturity; the difference introduced with "à capital non garanti" is that not only you may not get any interests, but you could also lose your capital too.

Thanks!
neutral philgoddard : I don't see how you arrive at "prior to maturity".

disagree Germaine : unsecured debt security = titre de créance non garanti. En voulant raboudiner avec la phrase de la fin, vous déformez le sens: you risk a capital loss for selling prior to maturity; la créance est "non garantie" en tout temps, pas juste avant échéance.

fixed income investment without principal guarantee

From the description, this financial product is something much more specific that "unsecurities debt securities". For one thing, it is a bundle invested in "equity-type" securities, and the only risk to invested principal that is mentioned involves cashing out *before maturity*.

This thing is an "alternative investment" product offered to an investor. I'd switch to the singular and just call it an "investment".

In any case, "secured", for a debt instrument, does not necessarily imply a full principal guarantee. If the 'capital' is or is not 'garanti', say so explicitly in the translation.

Better late than never. Just offering my $0.02 for the next person wondering how to translate 'à capital [non] garanti'.
