French term
Fabrication de pièces en acier mécanosoudées
French to English
Tech/Engineering
Metallurgy / Casting
CCTP
Hello folks,
Translating a CCTP and it's the title of the doc that I'm not sure about.
This is the intro.
My rendition is:
"Production of welded steel parts".
I can't see any other possibility but I'm not an expert in this field and Google doesn't like my rendering which worries me a little.
All help gratefully received.
Many thanks.

: The term "mecano-welded", nice though it is, seems to only occur in translations.//Yes, in the first one, which is translated from French, but not in your second ref., which is also French (unless Aquitaine has moved recently).

As opposed to chemically or adhesive welded.

"In the above classification, each group includes several methods. Fusion welding includes arc, plasma, electroslag, gas, and electron-beam welding. Pressure welding includes forge, cold, ultrasonic, friction, and explosion welding. Other characteristics can also be used as criteria for classification. For example, the following types of welding can be distinguished according to the type of energy used: electrical welding (arc, resistance, electroslag, plasma, and induction welding), mechanical welding (friction, cold, and ultrasonic welding), chemical welding (gas and Thermit welding), and beam-energy welding (photon-beam, electron-beam, and laser welding)."

: Another ref: http://www.vergnet.com/en/production.php
says mechanised welding. Probably means the same as mechanically? [I don't go with your explanation though]

Thanks, but if your reference is correct in translating "mécanosoudure" as "mechanised welding", then my answer is wrong. Mechanical isn't the same as mechanised. See reference I've just added above for mechanical welding opposed to other types of weldin

Like this company, I'd keep mechanical for non-welded jointing:

Kashew's comments here and on my answer indicate that the source term may well mean "mechanised welding". However, those references rely on translations of French sources and it would be useful to have a French source that explains "mécanosoudé" in French, rather than rely upon, possibly inaccurate, translations of French texts into English.
