Charge per hour

Or charge per minute; as opposed to per km.

This sounds simpler than 'time-based charge' or 'fare calculated on the basis of time' or anything similar.

'scatto' is a unit of cost in this instance, and its idiomatic equivalent is the more general term 'charge'. the total of all charges for a taxi journey would be the fare.

Example sentence:

Charge per hour when speed drops below X km/h" as in example in link below.

How do Taximeters Work?

We are often asked how a taxi meter works out the fare it displays. It is obviously worked out in some way from the length of the taxi ride, but how?

We will try to explain this here.

This description related to the standard charging method used by taxi meters in the UK and also in many other countries. It's often called "Time or Distance" charging and is described in the European Standard for Taximeters: EN50148.
