discount bills held in the Company's portfolio

Peer comment(s):

agree Edgar Bettridge : yes, but is the answer slightly ambiguous, suggesting the noun form whereas the source is an action? ie doing the discounting - so maybe insert "the" after discount? or delete "bills held in"?

thanks Edgar- actually this is usually one item in a list like : buy..., sell..., discount .., That's why I didn't see the ambiguity- otherwise ok add "the"- I wouldn't delete bills (just portfolio may be ambiguous?) :)
agree James (Jim) Davis : I think you could safely skip "in the Company's portfolio" and and replace with "held by the company".

discount the company's invoices/accounts receivable

Note that in Italian banking terms (and not in reference to stock-markets), portafoglio really means "account", and in reference to a business it usually means accounts receivable.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Invoice_discounting
Invoice discounting is a form of short-term borrowing often used to improve a company's working capital and cash flow position.
Invoice discounting allows a business to draw money against its sales invoices before the customer has actually paid. To do this, the business borrows a percentage of the value of its sales ledger from a finance company, effectively using the unpaid sales invoices as collateral for the borrowing.[1]
Invoice Discounting is sometimes referred to as Discreet Factoring as it is essentially the same product as Factoring - the business gets cash from its sales invoices earlier than it otherwise would - but the key difference is that the credit control remains with the business owner.[2]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Factoring_(finance)
Factoring is the sale of receivables, whereas invoice discounting ("Assignment of Accounts Receivable" in American Accounting) is a borrowing that involves the use of the accounts receivable assets as collateral for the Loan.[3][9] However, in some other markets, such as the UK, invoice discounting is considered to be a form of factoring, involving the "assignment of receivables", that is included in official factoring statistics.[10] It is therefore also not considered to be borrowing in the UK. In the UK the arrangement is usually confidential in that the debtor is not notified of the assignment of the receivable and the seller of the receivable collects the debt on behalf of the factor. In the UK, the main difference between factoring and invoice discounting is confidentiality.[11]
