Italian term

Motivazioni

Italian to English Law/Patents Business/Commerce (general) Letter from police for information
This is contained in a letter from the police to a large international organisation, asking them for information and to fill out a questionnaire.

At the end of the request is an extra paragraph entitled "MOTIVAZIONI" which explains that this office is currently investigating tax issues for a certain operator in the wholesale sector, and asks for price lists to be supplied for the period under question.

There are many translations for "motivazioni" in both Kudoz and in other online resources, but I am not sure on the best word to use here. Would "Grounds" do?

Discussion

A possible alternative Background might do.
Lara Barnett (asker) Mar 24, 2014:
English context: "Motivazione" is the title to this passage, which I have transalted as follows:

This office is carrying out an ongoing tax audit for the years 2005 to 2011 in respect of an individual operating within the wholesale sector.
You are kindly requested to make sure we receive the following documents within 15 days of receipt of this letter, and no later than 24/03/2014, (you may also fax this to No. 055/4978314).

- PRICE LISTS of the products listed in Annex 1, ...
David Hollywood Mar 24, 2014:
can you give us the exact paragraph?

Reasons

As I understand it the "large organisation" is a bank or brokerage or similar. The police are demanding information, which is normally probably very confidential. Consequently they are obliged to say why they are asking. They must give their reasons.
