German term

DS lat. GS

German to English Medical Medical (general) abbreviation
Hello, I'm translating a German medical report discussing the treatment of a knee pain after an arthroscopic operation. I've hit a couple abbreviations that I can't find (see below). Any help from people who have experience with this context would be much appreciated! Thank you!

DS and GS (Gelenkschmerz?) in:
"Kein Erguss. E/F 0-0-150, keine Einklemmung, Kollateral u sag. stabil, ***dez. DS lat. GS***, Am Zeiche nicht eindeutig positive, pDMS intakt."

DS also in:
"***DS*** vor allem am lat. Meniskus."

S. in:
"Schmerzen im ***S.*** von Instabilität und stechend einschiessend am lat. Kompartiment."
Proposed translations (English)

Discussion

Gisela Greenlee Jul 11, 2013:
On checking, it seems that "joint space tenderness" is used more frequently than "joint margin tenderness", so is "lateral joint space". I do believe that the American doctors refer to the same area, the "Gelenkspalt", when referring to the joint space, not just the distance as in narrowing of the joint space.
uyuni Jul 11, 2013:
@Gisela I am posting here, because the 'comment section' below does not leave enough 'space' (no pun intended!).

However, the joint 'space' encompasses much more than the pure 'distance' between articulating bones, e.g. the recessus, synovial structures, menisci, perhaps pathological accumulations of pus or effusion and more..
'Druckschmerz am lateralen Gelenkspalt' as used among German orthopaedic surgeons literally means tenderness/pain upon touch at the lateral section of the joint margin; i.e. here:

Ellen Kraus Jul 10, 2013:
DS lat. bedeutet m.E. Druckschmerz lateral. Bei der Abkürzung GS muss ich leider passen.

neutral uyuni : Why 'space' and not 'margin', the most simple and literal solution? http://www.google.de/#gs_rn=19&gs_ri=psy-ab&pq="joint margin...

Because the "Gelenkspalt" is the "joint space"
