Anna ZANNELLA (asker) May 13, 2013:
"strange" :) funny - I can just see that one come back from the client and bite me
Anna ZANNELLA (asker) May 12, 2013:
I think its probably on the right track.... I found this on a blog ... "Poi volevo sapere se qualcuno di voi ha mai provato a giocarsi i calci d'angolo. Su bet***** si può...ci sono un sacco di scommesse particolari " I think this guy is talking about betting on particular instances of the game such as corner kicks/goals- there is also live betting available now, where you can bet on the game as it evolves ... so I think its probably right I also understand that field moves ie by the All Blacks, can be statistically calculated on a Gaussian curve. .... It is also easier to fix particular moves than a whole game, ...
James (Jim) Davis May 12, 2013:
I would be temtped to translate as if it were not a technical term, with the word "strange".
Lorraine Buckley (X) May 12, 2013:
@Menander Jim is right about the grammar of course (I had read quickly and failed to notice the cases where particolare belonged to words other than scommesse). But I'm afraid I know nothing about gambling, beyond what I learnt on tv about the cricket spot-betting fixing scandal (players bribed by betters to, for example, bowl a "no ball" at a specific point in the match which the betters had put money on). As you say, overall Italian is poor and with such brief snatches it is difficult even to guess. Both my attempts were rather hurried assumptions.....
Anna ZANNELLA (asker) May 12, 2013:
@Jim Thanks for the singular/plural tip - i'll adjust it :) - the text is all a bit sketchy
Anna ZANNELLA (asker) May 12, 2013:
So with the All Blacks this means that punters like to bet on their every move ? :) .... and with Nigeria/Argentina pre-orchestrate field moves which amazingly a whole bunch of spectators foresaw and bet on ...
Anna ZANNELLA (asker) May 12, 2013:
Lorraine... I was just looking at *the regular pot, and a special pots* for card games which appears to be similarly postured ... the latter based on changing situations as the card/hands are dealt ....
James (Jim) Davis May 12, 2013:
Sorry My grammar is pretty good, but I'm no gambler I'm afraid. I think you have to distinguish between Lorraine's posts. The first one which spoke of fixing matches and unusual patterns of betting or her present post of spot betting. She seems to know the terms.
Anna ZANNELLA (asker) May 12, 2013:
ok .... a system of non-standard bets/betting and a noticable flux or excess traffic in non-standard bets/betting (possibly specific or *not* specific to football). Anyone know the term in English? I only have repeats of generic "non-standard betting" from the internet,.... I can't really make sense of the many terms in the urban dictionary - special pots ? :)
James (Jim) Davis May 12, 2013:
@Menander There is a grammatical error in the term posted. It should be "scommesse particolari" or "scommessa particolare".
In your three examples of context the first contains the same grammatical error. The second and third do not contain errors but are two different terms. One is a "sistema particolare" and the other a "flusso particolare" which could well be different things.
Anna ZANNELLA (asker) May 12, 2013:
Jim: yeah .. and ...? I've provided other examples of better Italian containing the exact same term, where it is quite clear that the betting is of a non-standard nature, but what is the term exactly ?.... I don't understand why you are confused or why you think I am confused.
James (Jim) Davis May 12, 2013:
sistema particolare / flusso particolare it is the betting system and the "flusso" which are "particolare". Except here: "Lo sport più popolare in Nuova Zelanda è il Rugby Union, *scommesse particolare* ci sono ogni volta" where the Italian is wrong.
Anna ZANNELLA (asker) May 12, 2013:
Moderators: sorry I couldn't find an appropriate category.

spot betting /special bets

" In conventional betting, punters bet on the overall outcome of the match or race. Examples include picking the winner of the 2.15 at Aintree, or the correct scoreline at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Arsenal.
Spot betting, though, sees gamblers staking their money on the minutiae of sporting encounters. Anything from the exact timing of the first throw-in during a football match to whether the first ball of a cricket match will be a wide or a no-ball."
Note from asker:
Spot fixing being the illegal version of spot betting .... while Special bets also being in line with Special Pots in cards, IMHO this covers the Italian term quite well .... thanks
Peer comment(s):

neutral James (Jim) Davis : I'm still wondering about unusual betting patterns. Can you give a reference to the Italian Lorraine?

so am I but Mods will whip me if I say so (!) There is "Su Argentina-Nigeria, si è registrato un flusso anomalo di scommesse, cosa che ha spinto il massimo organo calcistico mondiale a indagare." On Nigeria Argentina scommesse anomale lots of Ghits
Something went wrong...
