Neurologic deficits reflect the area of brain involved (see Table 1: Stroke (CVA): Selected Stroke Syndromes). Anterior circulation stroke typically causes ***unilateral symptoms***. Posterior circulation stroke can cause unilateral or bilateral deficits and is more likely to affect consciousness, especially when the basilar artery is involved.

Hemisymptomatik (Halbseitensymptomatik) is not as specific as hemiplegia (paralysis). It can be weakness on the affected side, disturbed sensory function, hemiparesis, hemiplegia, etc. depending on the severity.

: See my note. I don't think Hemisymptomatik is that specific. The author did not write "keine Hemiplegie".

well, sometimes we dont translate 1:1. Another instance is "keine pektanginöse Beschwerden". Although the author does not say "keine Angina pectoris", I'd still translate as "no symptoms of angina" :)

symptoms of unilateral brain damage
Unilateral symptoms refer to all types of diseases, not necessarily those connected to the brain.
hemiplegic symptoms

In 10 of 15 cases with hemiplegic symptoms during migraine attack the areas of decreased tracer uptake showed a topographic relationship to neurological deficits. It appears that migraine attacks occur in connection with exacerbations of preexisting changes of neuronal activities, cerebral perfusion and metabolism.

Supratentorial lesions may cause hemiplegic symptoms, and these may mimic cerebral palsy. In children with cerebral palsy, the pattern of neurologic deficit may evolve to some degree over time (such as development of choreoathetosis in children with hypotonia); therefore, diagnostic confusion may occur. A significant change in the quality or degree of the disability should strongly suggest the possibility of an underlining neoplasm.

We also saw an excellent result immediately with the first treated patient, a forty year man, who came to us with incomplete traumatic cervical hemiplegic symptoms.

: hemiplegia (and its symptoms) only relates to motor impairment and doesn't include sensitivity and other problems.// ok, so unilateral symptoms seem to fit better :)
