Italian term

sinistro anomalo

Italian to English Bus/Financial Insurance
I have absolutely no context other than: "Gestione dei sinistri anomali", which is one item on a list of duties for which a department is responsible.

I've translated this before, years ago, but since upgrading to the latest version of SDL Trados my old TMs are practically useless - can't find anything in them anymore!

Discussion

Thomas Roberts Feb 28, 2011:
fraudulent Given the context (one dept. dealing with these types of claim), since every claim is potentially fraudulent I don't think it would be very efficient to have one department deal with potentially fraudulent claims.
James (Jim) Davis Feb 28, 2011:
Don't think so. "questionable" would suggest something illicit in the claim, while anomalo really means that it was not run of the mill, there is something different about it so it won't go through the standard procedure, hence my "problem claims", in the sense of claims which need specific individual attention.
Ivana UK (asker) Feb 28, 2011:
correction: questionable
Ivana UK (asker) Feb 28, 2011:
What are everyone's thought on 'dubious' or 'questionalbe' claims?

It's understanding the meaning of the IT term that's the issue here. Does 'anomali' just mean unusual/non-standard or does it have other implications?

'Sinistri anomal' often goes hand in hand with 'sinistri fraudolenti' (sinistri anomai e/o fraudolenti) for which a suitable translation might be 'dubious and/or fraudulent claims' or 'questionable and/or fraudulten claims' (but once again, it all depends on the actual meaning of 'anomali' ...)
