Also referred to as: 'indice di occupazione di un fondo' and 'occupazione fondiaria'

The only 'definition' of the term occcupazione that I've been able to find is this (taken from an online document):

L’occupazione dei fondi è definita dalle linee di costruzione (obbligatorie) e dalle linee di arretramento indicate nel Piano di edificazione (Piano N. 1) e nel Piano delle costruzioni sotterranee (Piano N. 2). in scala 1:500

“lot coverage” “lot coverage” means the portion of the lot area covered by the ground floor area of all buildings and structures on a lot, and expressed as a percentage of the lot area.

Found this useful explanation of the 2 ratios: 10. Cos’è l’indice di sfruttamento? Chi lo definisce?
Indice di sfruttamento: rapporto tra Superficie Utile Lorda e Superficie Edificabile del Fondo. La SUL è definita come la somma di tutte le superfici abitabili (compresi corridoi e scale, escluse cantine e garage) di tutti i piani dell’edificio. La SEF è la superficie edificabile senza bosco, corsi d’acqua o superfici di transito.
IS = SUL / SEF (%)
L’indice di occupazione invece è il rapporto tra la superficie libera e quella occupata (in proiezione orizzontale: non vengono quindi conteggiati i vari piani dell’edificio).

Hi and thanks very much for the reference, it helps a lot as I couldn't find the definition anywhere!

The term appears in aPiano Regolatore under a list of indices used - with no further context I'm afraid.

'lot coverage ratio' seems to be more specific about the area covered by one floor, not the sum of the amount of floor space on each floor.

Found a few hits for 'plot/site coverage ratio', which seems to fit the bill but not convinced this is the standard terms as there are so few online refs.
'Lot coverage ratio' seems to fit the bill, while Floor area ratio seems to more adequately reflect the meaning of Indice id Sfruttamento (see new definitions in Discussion area) ... (unless I'm reading it completely wrong which could well be the case - I'm at the stage that the more I look at the two ratios the more ambiguous they get!!)
