This is from a historical overview of a German "Steingutfabrik:"
Neue Techniken, eine eigene Zeichenschule und *Zierformerei* sowie die Mitarbeit namhafter Entwerfer führten zu einer enormen Steigerung des künstlerischen Niveaus des Sortiments.
Does it refer to the shaping/forming of decorative accents on various items? And what would you call this in English?? The German word itself doesn't get many hits.
Any ideas welcome!

The "Formerei" should be some sort of workshop but I am by no means sure; nor have I found relevant sources that prove the usage of the above collocation. This is just to set the ball rolling...

I don't know if this refers specifically to decorative accents on individual items, or rather to the shapes of the items as a whole.
