French term

Arrête le solde créditeur

French to English Bus/Financial Finance (general)
I'm having a hard time with this phrase in the sentence below.

Is this correct? Settle the credit balance to date...

Arrête le solde créditeur à ce jour du compte courant de l'associé unique X, lequel s'élève à X euros, en vue de la libération des parts nouvelles créées en représentation de l'augmentation de capital par compensation avec des créances liquides et exigibles sur la Société.

Discussion

joehlindsay Oct 31, 2010:
This is just a bank statement to reflect the shifting of money from the surplus of receivables (money received by the company) over accounts payable (money the company owes) to share capital, that is, the company's capital.

They have to keep money from receivable to pay payables, but when they get enough ahead, they officially move the money from the 'accounts receivable' to share capital, ie they increase the company's capital (& capitalization). Or they can pay the money out in dividends, etc.

So, "they adjust the credit balance to reflect that money has been moved from accounts receivable to capital".

Hi, I appreciate your help. This document is entitled: Arrêté de compte courant

and the sentence preceeding the one in question is:
Le(s) soussigné (s) agissant en qualité de co-gérant(s) de la société à responsabilité limitée X,
Arrête le solde créditeur à ce jour ...
This company is not insolvent, there has been a recent increase in capital, in cash and in consideration for claims on the company.
AllegroTrans Oct 31, 2010:
Can you tell us why the sentence starts with a verb? What immediately precedes it?
AllegroTrans Oct 31, 2010:
It might help if you could tell us what is happening here - is X insolvent?

Adjust the credit balance

"Arrêter le compte" means 'ruling an account' or 'ruling and balancing an account' in accounting parlance. That means to reconcile the credit and debit balances after an event such as that described here, or indeed, 'settling', sort of.

Thanks so much, your explanation was very helpful!

thanks. It's good to see some one else thinks so,because I'm not confident.
neutral AllegroTrans : not at all sure about "adjust" since this could mean changing it rather than fixing it

'Arrêter means means 'rule and balance' = adjust, not just record otherwise they would not use "arrêter".
agree Yvonne Gallagher : maybe use "reconcile the account" as mentioned in explanation

establishes/records the credit balance

since the actual amount is specified (X euros) I think this is a formal statement recording the fact
My Colins business dict. gives
to settle
to balance
to close off (an account)
