Carta de Soltería

Spanish to English Other Certificates, Diplomas, Licenses, CVs
Es el título de un documento emitido por una Notaría, en el cual se certifica, en presencia de testigos, que una persona es de estado civil soltera.

When I needed this document, the U.S. consulate used the Spanish term, but what I obtained from the consulate office was a sworn statement notarized by a U.S. notary, so affidavit makes sense here.

Thank you Thanks, for letting us know. There seem to be slight differences between all these kind of documents. For example, I read that in order to obtain a "certificates of no impediment" you do not need to swear before a notary that you are single, but later I found out that in England you to the sworn statement before a registrar

civil vs. church I've done some quick research, and it seems like the "Letter of Freedom" is something that is only given by churches (particularly Catholic) or other religious institutions. So if the document was issued by a civil authority, then perhaps this is not the best term to use.

Otras opciones Iván, en la red encontré las siguientes opciones adicionales para carta de soltería, aunque me parece que la de Tetyana transmite mejor el sentido de una carta de soltería venezolana:

Certificate of single status, single status certificate, certificate of no impediment, certificate of no legal impediment, certificate of no impediment to marriage, certificate of no impediment to marry.

Los que incluyen el término "impediment" creo que abarcan más que sólo certificar que la persona no se ha casado.

Adicionalmente, hoy encontré: Certificate of No Record of a Marriage, statement of absence of any marriage record (que dicen que jamás de has casado)

Letters of Freedom (forms provided by the parish)
This is a sworn statement, witnessed by a Priest, minister or notary public, attesting that you have never been married before, in either a Church or civil ceremony, and that there is no known impediment to the marriage. Parents normally fill this out, or others who have known you most or all of your life may complete it. Two witnesses are required for each party to the marriage.
