Sheila Wilson Feb 23, 2010:
More seriously, though I have documents referring to me as "Wilson épouse Green" and "Wilson ép. Green" but I've never been referred to as "Wilson n(ée) Green". More of a problem is why a pathologist would ever refer to herself in that way. It just doesn't seem likely to me.
Sheila Wilson Feb 23, 2010:
Perhaps Dupont is her first name! http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dupond_et_Dupont : Tintin lui-même il n'est pas clair si Dupond/t est leur nom ou prénom. :-)
Peter Enright (asker) Feb 23, 2010:
Sorry, I should also say it's a pathologist's name, signing off a report.

It is a woman. Context is France, Strasbourg. I have no other info.
writeaway Feb 22, 2010:
N or n? French use né(e) too. It depends on the context. Is it N. or n.?
Tony M Feb 22, 2010:
Man or woman? Well, for a start, is the name that of a man or woman? that would at least make it possible to know if 'née' is even plausible. though as Liz and Sheila say, one sees 'née' less often in such contexts here in FR (can't speak for CA or BE).

It almost looks like this is a person whose surname is DUPONT, and whose christian names are Nicolas Depardieu, though initializing the first seems ununual — but cf. certain figures like F. Murray Abraham!

Perhaps a little more of the context would help?
Sheila Wilson Feb 22, 2010:
I doubt it's née in France Strangely enough, it's a term I saw more in the UK than I've seen here! As Liz says, the French use épouse.
liz cencetti (X) Feb 22, 2010:
More context? Is it French French or Canadian? Or Belgian? In France the usual form is to put DUPONT épouse DEPARDIEU. Might there be a difference in other countries?
