Ciao Lara. La fonte è semplicissima: il termine si trova in ogni buon dizionario di inglese.
Il verbo italiano "zigrinare" deriva da "zigrino", che, come hanno accennato anche i colleghi, è una pelle di squalo o di razza, conciata con un procedimento particolare, in modo da renderla estremamente dura e ruvida, che viene utilizzata per levigare l'ebano o l'avorio. Oppure definisce una pelle di asino, cavallo o cammello, resa ruvida e corrugata (appunto "zigrinata"), sempre con un procedimento speciale.
Inoltre, se ci fai caso, il termine inglese, sia come verbo che sostantivo, è anche molto simile a quello italiano, perché hanno un'origine comune. Anche in francese troviamo "chagrin" e "chagriner", con lo stesso significato (anche se in francese "chagrin" indica anche la malinconia, forse con una misteriosa estensione di significato). Tra l'altro, l'inglese "chagreen" deriva etimologicamente proprio dal francese "chagrin" (è infatti quasi identico a quest'ultimo), e sia la voce francese che l'italiano "zigrino" vengono, anticamente, dal turco "sagri" = "pelle della groppa di un animale" (che ha un parallelo nel persiano "sagari").

n. the rough hide of a shark or ray (Family Dasyatidae) covered with numerous bony denticles. Shagreen named after a Parisian leather craftsman at the 18th century French court, Jean-Claude Galuchat. He began to fashion sting-ray for Louis XV and members of his court, applying it to objects that had never before been made – toilette items, perfume flacons, sewing and snuffboxes, wig-cases and the like, and in the way that brought out its inherent beauty and mystery.

Shagreen is also known as stingray skin/leather. Applications used in furniture production date as far back as the art deco period. The word "shagreen" originates from France and is commonly confused with a shark skin and stingray skin combination.

Shagreen is a type of leather or rawhide consisting of rough untanned skin, formerly made from a horse's back or that of an onager (wild ass), and typically dyed green. Shagreen is now commonly made of the skins of sharks and rays. The word derives from the French chagrin (sorrow) which in turn is borrowed from Turkish sağrı "the back of a horse". The roughness of texture led to the French meaning of displeasure or ill-humor.[1]
