Jan 5, 2010 16:44: Astrid Elke Witte changed "Term asked" from "reprend au moins la situation à jour (see context)" to "reprend au moins la situation à jour"

Votes to reclassify question as PRO/non-PRO:

Non-PRO (1): writeaway

When entering new questions, KudoZ askers are given an opportunity* to classify the difficulty of their questions as 'easy' or 'pro'. If you feel a question marked 'easy' should actually be marked 'pro', and if you have earned more than 20 KudoZ points, you can click the "Vote PRO" button to recommend that change.

How to tell the difference between "easy" and "pro" questions:

An easy question is one that any bilingual person would be able to answer correctly. (Or in the case of monolingual questions, an easy question is one that any native speaker of the language would be able to answer correctly.)

A pro question is anything else... in other words, any question that requires knowledge or skills that are specialized (even slightly).

Another way to think of the difficulty levels is this: an easy question is one that deals with everyday conversation. A pro question is anything else.

When deciding between easy and pro, err on the side of pro. Most questions will be pro.

* Note: non-member askers are not given the option of entering 'pro' questions; the only way for their questions to be classified as 'pro' is for a ProZ.com member or members to re-classify it.

See Alison's link... It is a carbon copy of the document I am translating.
Chris Hall (asker) Jan 5, 2010:
Many thanks in particular to Matthew and fourth... Your help has been invaluable here. Matthew for your help with "reprendre à jour" and fourth for your help with "au moins". Spot on guys!!!
MatthewLaSon Jan 5, 2010:
Hi Chris "Update" is fine. That's what I thought. I just said "keeps current" because I'm not sure if there's any kind of continual updating. Have a good day.
Chris Hall (asker) Jan 5, 2010:
My take on it at the moment... Many thanks to all. Here goes:

"the present copy updates the status of the data communicated to the trade and companies register up to at least three days before the date of issuing the said copy"
margaret caulfield Jan 5, 2010:
Perhaps I'd use "excerpt" instead of "copy". Also, I'd definitely not use "the present". Simply "this excerpt/copy"...
Chris Hall (asker) Jan 5, 2010:
A translation suggestion, Margaret... What do you think about:

"the present copy at least corrects the updated status of the data"...
margaret caulfield Jan 5, 2010:
Chris, In the post you just closed, I suggested you put the text you needed translated. Meanwhile, you were already doing that, probably before seeing my comment!!
Chris Hall (asker) Jan 5, 2010:
Margaret... To what?
margaret caulfield Jan 5, 2010:
OK!! You beat me to it!!

French term (edited): reprend au moins la situation à jour (see context)

at least corrects/repeats the updated situation...

It's difficult to know whether this means "corrects" or "repeats", even with the context.

It could be "status".
Note from asker:
Should it be "status" instead of "situation"? I was thinking along the lines of "at least updates the status of the data".
Please refer to the discussion box and let me know what you think. Many thanks again Margaret.

Hello,

I think that "reprend à jour" means "to update" (put back to date)

I hope this helps

Note from asker:
Any reason why you chose "at least keeps current" instead of "at least updates"??? I much prefer "at least updates". Many thanks in advance, Matthew. Kind regards, Chris.

Note from asker:
Many thanks for your suggestion of "au moins" fourth - it certainly clarifies matters now. I was totally stumped on that little blighter.
Peer comment(s):

neutral margaret caulfield : I don't see any reason why emphasis is place on "at least" here. If this were the case, I believe "au moins" would at least be between commas to give it this relevance.

Leave out the 'situation'. Leave out 'updated'. Consider leaving out 'at least', too.

This is so scary it is unreal. The document I am translating is a carbon copy of this. Please post this as an answer to get the proper credit you deserve.
I see that mr/mrs writeaway is getting one of his/her sly digs in yet again. I hope he/she is very happy.
