French term

memoire ampliatif

French to English Law/Patents Law: Contract(s)
Name of a document I am translating, for the Cour de Cassation. Inasmuch as 'ampliatif' denotes a "Document qui développe une idée, une argumentation, une thèse," http://www.lexagone.com/dico/dico.php?ref_dico=Ampliatif&let...

could this be properly translated (US English) into Memorandum in Support? Or even, Memorandum of Law in Support.

Seems to be the right register of US-EN too.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I am going with Supplementary Brief, even though I am not sure this is not just an initial brief in support. Because of the French explanation in lexagone, I am not sure this is not just a simple brief in support of the appeal."

additional statement

I think any form of words that conveys the general idea will do. But "amplificatory memorandum" would be a bit cumbersome.

Note from asker:
I like the idea of 'brief' or memorandum in support. It is what we file when we do appeals for clients... it is a document that develops the facts, the arguments, and the law in support of whatever you are trying to get the court to accept...
