Italian term

patrimonio di terzi

Italian to English Bus/Financial Finance (general)
Ok, so this normally translates as minority interest, but how can I translate in the below sentence, where both 'types' of 'minority interest' appear side by side?

Minority interest liability?

Been driving me mad all day so any suggestions much appreciated.

Context - Consolidation

Si è proceduto infine all’elisione del valore contabile delle partecipazioni consolidate integralmente contro la corrispondente frazione di patrimonio netto evidenziando, in apposite voci, la quota di utile e di patrimonio di terzi

utile di terzi = minority interest (as in 2 below)
patrimonio di terzi = minority interest (as in 1 below)

What Does Minority Interest Mean?
1. A significant but non-controlling ownership of less than 50% of a company's voting shares by either an investor or another company.

2. A non-current liability that can be found on a parent company's balance sheet that represents the proportion of its subsidiaries owned by minority shareholders

shareholders' equity attributable to minority interests

"Finally the book value of the fully consolidated subsidiaries was eliminated agaist the corresponding quota of equity recognising the profit attributable to minority interests and shareholders' equity attributable to minority interests within separate items."

The phrase you need Ivana is "attributable to". It is long but as you see from the quantity of the Google hits below (half a million each) these are the standard terms. You might want to omit the first "attributable to", but I don't, I prefer it to be long but very clear. When consolidating, the carrying amount of the equity has to be eliminated. The equity will consist of the equity at the beginning of the year plus the profit for the year. Of course when annual reports are prepared, the shareholders haven't decided what to do with the profit (retain it or distribute it) so the two go in separate items.

Clearly from the context the "patrimonio di terzi" is the "patrimonio netto di terzi", the equity, the shareholders' equity or shareholders' funds, whichever you prefer. All are commonly used in this precise context.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "That's the one - like you said it's a bit wordy, but is at least used by UK companies. Thanks Jim"
