context: payroll sheet with job titles for a company's financial analysis in view of M&A
The company manufactures paper+ cardboard,sells art supplies, does framing and restoration work on docs and art.They have 40 employees.They're in the Paris area.
I dont quite understand what this person really does:
entretien des locaux/maintenance man ?
... or entretien des machines maybe ?
...and what about "conditionnement"?
Does he work in the packaging & shipping dept. ?
Im stumped!

| Yes,I think this is the most appropriate and is what I finally chose.Though,I must say that it still disturbs me somewhat to not really understand WHAT the job is/entails !In my mind, it stirs up the image of some guy sweeping/mopping up and then ,when he's done,rushing to join the production chain at the final packing/packaging stage! |

maintenance and conditioning technician
Really just offering leads, but the GDT suggests that "conditionnement", in the context of the "industrie papetière" has a special technical sense.
The possibilities offered are "seasoning" and "curing" as well as "conditioning", and it seems that it has to do with controlling the temperature and humidity conditions of the paper - it's 'maturing'. Who knew!?
This would explain the combination though I think: this worker basically monitors the paper's environment...
I'd bet that's the meaning but my stab at translating that as a job title is just a guess thought.

Yes, 'technician' isn't particularly high falutin to me either... IF I'm on the right track he could well be just a knob-twiddler - I do think it's work considering that 'conditionnement' could have a special sense here, but as you say, perhaps not a key term - job descriptions are teribly weaselly.

The trend is clearly to give "fancy" titles! Thanks for your help :) |
