German term
Bauteilkomponenten
German to English
Tech/Engineering
Mechanics / Mech Engineering
I typically translate Bauteil as component but I have difficulties distinguishing between a Bauteil and a Bauteilkomponente. Any ideas?
Context:
Zunehmend finden Hartstoffschichten auch Anwendung auf Bauteilen und Bauteilkomponenten im allgemeinen Maschinenbau, der Medizintechnik und im Konsumgüterbereich zum Verschleißschutz, zur Verringerung der Reibung oder zur Erhöhung der Ermüdungsfestigkeit.

Sometimes German likes to use two words where one would do. So unless the text makes it clear elsewhere that "Bauteilen" and "Bauteilkomponenten" are two completely separate entities, I would just translate the whole phrase, "Bauteilen und Bauteilkomponenten" as "components" and be done with it.
If that is not a viable solution for this context, you could translate "Bauteilen" as something like "units" ("units and components" sounds all right). That is one alternative suggested by Laixicon.

you could also render 'B und Bk' as 'components and parts' (quasi-synonyms in English, thus matching the German)
