Italian term

frazione di premio

I'm not at all sure of the best translation for "frazione di premio" .

Ivana UK (asker) Oct 16, 2007:
You're right - I didn't include enough context! It relates to life, accident and sickness insurance policies. I'm not sure that I understand the full meaning of the Italian "frazione di premio" which is literally "part premium" ...
Paul O'Brien Oct 16, 2007:
hi Ivana. might it be an interim payment on a bridging loan, you know, an SAL in italian (Stato Avanzamento Lavori) or in a cost reimbursement contract?

Selected

(unearned) premium reserve [riserva per frazione...]

"Unearned premium reserves constitute the portion of premium paid in advance for insurance or reinsurance that has not yet been provided."

"In respect of premium reserves, it is the Group’s policy to ensure that the net **unearned premium reserves** and deferred acquisition costs are adequate to meet the expected cost of claims and associated expenses in relation to the exposure after the balance sheet date. To the extent that the unearned premium reserves and deferred acquisition costs are inadequate, a liability adequacy provision will be held which will initially write down any deferred acquisition asset held. Once any deferred acquisition asset has been exhausted, an additional liability adequacy provision will be established."

pro-rata premium

hi ivana

judging from what i've seen, it seems that "frazione di premio" is simply an odd, legalese way of indicating a part of a premium. see:

http://www.analisiaziendale.it/basilea2_e_le_nuove_frontiere...

or

http://www.aduc.it/dyn/sosonline/leggienorme/legg_mostra.php...

hth :-))
Note from asker:

premium instalments

This looks like a reserve for unpaid instalments, where payment of the annual premium is made at set times during the year of insurance.
Note from asker:
This in my understanding too (now that I've got my head around "frazionato")!. Thanks Neil.
