time-barred offenses

An offence that cannot be prosecuted because of the applicable statute of limitations (prescrizione) is said to be "time-barred" (prescritto). The same applies to a civil claim.
Example sentence:

Because Plaintiff new, or should have known of the claim asserted in his Amended complaint no later than 5 August 1975, the claim set forth in Plaintiff's Amended Complaint must be dismissed as time-barred.
