Italian term

"lucido da trafila"

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Engineering: Industrial about a steel cheese grater
A steel cheese grater, technical specifications.
"Il filo (the cutting part?) dovra' essere lucido da trafila senza segni evidenti di lavorazione"
The grater is supposed to be in "acciaio lucido" which I think should mean "stainless steel".
Any suggestions most welcome!

Selected

the extruded wire must be shiny and void of obvious manufacturing marks

Trafilatura is the operation by which a die is used in the manufacturing process...the material is "extruded", in this case the wire itself

Italian term (edited): (il filo dovra' essere) lucido da trafila (senza segni evidenti di lavorazione)

The wire will have to be drawn without evident working marks/scratches

Il dizionario Garzanti dice:
trafilare
Traduzione v.tr. (metall.) to draw*; (in fili) to wiredraw*: - a caldo, to hot-draw; - a freddo, to cold-draw.

e lo stesso concetto che spiega il de mauro, solo da'' una traduzione equivalente)

bright drawn steel

Hi
Your text sounds tricky. Drawn steel is described as "bright" because of its clean surface finish (check the link), but the use of "filo" seems odd here. Like you, I think a cheese grater would be made of stainless steel, but the teeth are integral with the body of the device so it seems impossible that this specification should refer just to the business end of the contraption. Are you sure it's a grater? Even a device for producing thin slices would fit the text =slightly= better.
Cheers
Derek
