Italian term

una doppia trave reticolare con correnti a T, a piatti saldati

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Architecture hangar construction
I have translated this sentence: La trave che costituisce il traverso, con altezza totale di circa 5 m, è composta da una doppia trave reticolare con correnti a T, a piatti saldati.
in this way:
The girder that constitutes the transverse, having a total height of approximately 5 metres, is made up of a double reticular girder with flat welded T beams.
It's the second part which is a mystery to me!

Discussion

Mary Rizzo (asker) May 31, 2006:
Looking some more, I found that it is (in all likelihood!) welded steel plate girders. Further on in the text, we had columns made of them, so I figure they must be some kind of I-Beam.

The "piatti" could be separate components, i.e. plates, or, as you suggest, the T flanges of the two adjacent beams, which is perhaps more likely. It's all rather tricky without a picture.
